Dr. Bernadette Marson
Bernadette Marson, PhD, ACSW, LCSW-R is a mental health consultant and private practitioner who specializes as an individual, family, couples and marriage psychotherapist. She maintains a private practice in West Islip, Suffolk County and Fredonia, Chautauqua County and services all of New York state via telehealth.
In addition, Dr. Marson is the CEO and Director of Training EAP and Clinical Consultation for a company she founded, Marson LCSW & Consulting Services, PLLC, where she provides clinical consultation, EAP, professional supervision, corporate consultations, staff training and development, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD), anger management classes and speaking engagements. With a diverse clinical and administrative background, she is also a professor and lead/contributing faculty. Dr. Marson was the Director of Case Management for one of the largest human services agencies in New York City prior to which she was the Director of Family and Children Services for a Multi Service Agency in New York City. In her career she also worked with the elderly, at risk adolescents, mentally ill, developmentally disabled, autistic children, emotionally disturbed children, substance abusers, and victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Dr. Marson’s experience as a psychotherapist in mind-body disciplines includes training in Gestalt Therapy. She is a member of NASW and a past Vice President of the NASW, New York State. In 2007, she was the recipient of the NASW, New York State, Excellence in Leadership Award. In 2013, on the Best of Long Island Dr. Marson was voted Best Life Coach and Best Psychotherapist by Long Island Press. Other professional organizations for which she is a member include: American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, International Association of Relational Research, Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health and the National Organization of Human Services.
Dr. Marson spent her career dealing with the multi-faceted problems of a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds, differing genders, ages, sexual orientations, and socio-economic classes with differing cultural, racial and religious backgrounds, and about many different issues. Having traveled to over forty different countries (including Israel, Turkey, Argentina, Chile, Dominican Republic, Italy, Greece, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, South Africa, Spain, Serbia, Slovenia, Iceland, Jamaica, Barbados, England and France), she has learnt the language and culture of these countries thus allowing her to provide culturally competent services. Dr. Marson has used her clinical abilities to make a difference in the lives of many. She works with life issues in a realistic and compassionate manner. It is each individual’s responsibility to decide whether or not to follow through on behaviors that help, rather than hurt, the balance they are pursuing.
In her role as a clinical consultant, Dr. Marson has helped organizations to implement effective programs. This is done through needs assessment, program evaluation, grant compliance, policy and procedure review and development, program outcomes, team building, crisis intervention, and staff training and development. Dr. Marson has supervised many social work students and marriage and family therapist.
